Parks, Trails & Waterfronts
The Cowichan Valley has many parks, waterfront walks, trails and off leash dog parks for you to explore, all within a 10 to 30 minute drive. Maple Bay Beach, Crofton Seawalk and the waterfront shopping district of Cowichan Bay Village are perfect places to take in the fresh ocean air. Some of the best parks, creeks and trails in Canada are scattered abundantly throughout the area, including the Trans Canada Trail, which is right outside your doorstep! Somenos Creek Dog Park and McAdam River Trails are also a must for dog owners.

Arts & Music
The Cowichan Valley is home to innumerable artisans, craftsmen, musicians and artists. The Cowichan Performing Arts Centre is a 10 minute drive from Stonewood Village, and is a linchpin of the community’s local theatre and live music scene. The Chemanius Theatre also presents professional theatre to the Cowichan Valley and strives to support local artists and writers. Many of our pubs feature local musicians and bands on a weekly basis and you’re always a short drive to Victoria, where you can catch large stadium shows with world famous acts.
The abundance of artists on Vancouver Island mean that there’s always new, beautiful work to see in our local galleries, and many unique, creative pieces in local artisan shops. If you yourself are artistically inclined, we’re certain you will thrive within our welcoming arts community.

Local Foods & Vineyards
The Cowichan Valley takes great pride in its local foods and wines. Being bordered by the ocean and farmland means that fresh off the boat seafood, locally grown produce and locally raised livestock is the norm. Aside from its world renowned seafood, Cowichan Valley is also known for its honey, blackberries, meat, mushrooms, cheese, bread, tea, vinegars and sea salt.
It’s easy to fill your hamper with local meal fixings! The weekly farmer’s market is the best way to get your local groceries in one trip, but Cowichan Valley residents also get to experience the enjoyment and satisfaction of driving down farm backroads or going to fisherman’s wharfs, where fresh produce, meats, baked treats and seafood can be purchased directly from their producers.
It’s no secret that British Columbia is famous for its wines, and the Cowichan Valley is home to numerous wineries for the wine aficionados to experience. Many pair their wines with fine dining made from local ingredients and a few even offer bed and breakfast style accommodations. Sports & Golfing
Stonewood Village is a 10 minute drive to both Cowichan Sportsplex and Cowichan Aquatic Centre, both world-class fitness facilities. The Sportsplex features a cushioned track and outfoor fitness equipment and the Aquatic Centre boasts fitness features like lap pools, steam rooms and sauna, as well fun recreation facilities like a wave pool, water slides and lazy river. We are also walking distance to local soccer and baseball fields with community sports teams.
Some of the best golfing in Canada can be found on Vancouver Island. March Meadows Golf Club, Cowichan Golf and Country Club, and Mount Breton Golf Course are all within a 30 minute drive from Stonewood Village. Avid golfers will have plenty of courses to check out as there are over 40 courses around Vancouver Island.
Shopping & Grocery
Downtown Duncan is a 5 minute drive from Stonewood Village, and is also accessible via bus or a 35 minute walk. It offers all the shops, restaurants and services you could need, and is perfect for times you want a taste of city life. Every Saturday, Downtown Duncan hosts a farmer’s market, and several grocery stores are within a five minute drive or short bus ride from Stonewood Village. Cowichan Commons, a mall with over 500,000 square feet of shopping, including big box stores like Walmart, Future Shop, Home Depot and Canadian Tire, is also a five minute drive or 35 minute walk away.
Stonewood Village has easy access to the Cowichan District Hospital. It is 5 minutes away by car, 15 minutes walking distance and is also one bus ride away. Several extended care facilities are within a 10 minute drive of our community and are also easy to get to on major bus routes. Cowichan Valley itself has excellent health care facilities and doctors, and can provide services to you and your family during every stage of life.
Stonewood Village is in School District No 79. Drinkwater Elementary and Tansor Elementary are a 20 minute walk from our community, and École Mount Prevost French Immersion School is a 15 minute walk. Queen Marget’s School, an independent school offering a univeristy preparatory program and renowned equestrian program is a 10 minute drive away.
Cowichan Valley offers a variety of employment opportunities across many fields. The single largest employer is the hospital, and many jobs also exist in agriculture, sales, manufacturing and construction. Because Vancouver Island is so diverse, job seekers have the flexibility to choose whether they want to embark on a certain career path, or just work casually around other commitments.
